How Invisalign Works

Numerous Invisalign trays on a tabletop

Invisalign straightens your teeth with clear plastic trays that are custom-made based on digital impressions that we take of your mouth. The treatment uses a series of these trays, each of which is designed to reposition a small section of your smile at a time. You’ll wear each set of aligners for about two or three weeks before moving on to the next one. It’s vital that you wear the aligners for at least 22 hours per day; only take them out to eat, drink, brush, or floss. Over the course of your treatment, you’ll check in with Dr. Sadkin every few weeks to make sure your teeth are moving as planned.

Benefits of Invisalign

Patients prefer Invisalign to traditional braces for several reasons:

  • Unless someone knows what to look for, your aligners should be essentially unnoticeable when worn.
  • Since you can remove the aligners at any time, you won’t need to adjust your diet or oral care routine.
  • The smooth plastic of the aligners is less likely to irritate your mouth than the sharp metal brackets and wires.
  • The average treatment time with Invisalign (12-18 months) is much shorter than that of metal braces (24-36 months).
